About the Great Eastern Fly-In

Started in 1992 by an avid group of local aviators, the Great Eastern (as it is affectionately called) is a four day event designed to inspire and promote local and Australian aviation. This family aviation adventure brings to life the history of the Evans Head WWII Aerodrome and its Bombing, Gunnery and Air Observers' Schools.

The Fly-In offers a unique location for aviators and their families to holiday. There are great facilities, including a runway in each wind direction - a pilot's paradise!

There are air displays, adventure flights, trial instruction flights, aviation business and museum displays, entertainment, local food markets, an outdoor film night, and much, much more. Of course, there are also the vast array of 'things that fly', from models to warbirds.

The Fly-In promotes aviation training, product and safety development and ongoing opportunities for those whose dream it is to fly. It is an exciting, living memorial to those who trained and worked at Evans Head during WWII. This is their dream for the aerodrome.
